Writing: Framing Your Thoughts - Predicate Expander (How)

So far, we've talked about the subject (who/what the sentence is about - person, place, thing), the predicate (the action done by/to/for the subject - a verb), the "where" predicate expander (where the action is taking place), and receivers (something that is taking the action from the subject).

Now, we learning about the "how" predicate expander. In sentences we are creating, we are going to add more detail by saying "how" the action was done. Here is the "how" predicate expander triangle symbol; it's just like the "where" triangle predicate expander symbol:

The starter words for the "how" predicate expander are like, with, without and words that end in -ly. Let's look at the sample sentence we've been using:

The dog chased. (The dog is the subject and chased is the predicate)
The dog chased the cat. (The cat is the receiver)
The dog chased the cat in the park. (In the park is the "where" predicate expander)

So, how can we add a "how" predicate expander to this sentence? Use a starter word! Let's use a word that ends in -ly:

Or, we can use like:

Or, we can use with:

Or we can use without:
