Today, we saw the inside of a hard-boiled egg to see what layers are. A layer is "a single thickness of a material covering a surface or forming an overlying part or segment" (dictionary.com). Just like the Earth, the Sun has layers, too.
Our Sun has several layers: the corona, chromosphere, photosphere, subsurface flows*, convection zone, radiative zone, and inner core.
The students were introduced to the concept of layers today, so we will learn more about the Sun's layers over the next few science lessons.
*We may or may not discuss in class.
