On Wednesday, the class learned about how our country uses voting to help make decisions. So, in order to learn firsthand about voting, we voted on what special treat we would have on Fun Friday today. The choices were ice cream sandwiches or Popsicles.
In order for this vote to be fair and fun, we voted in the style of the Ancient Greeks: you received one vote (in this case, we used dominoes to represent our vote) and you placed your vote in one of two containers, depending on which treat you wanted. Mr. Saputo acted as the tie breaker and the final result ended up being:Ice Cream Sandwiches --- 5
Popsicles --- 4
Since the majority (meaning "the most") voted for ice cream sandwiches, the entire class will get an ice cream sandwich today.
We also learned the importance of not being too disappointed if the one you voted for did not win. Sometimes we win and sometimes we don't, but at least we were able to voice our opinion about what we wanted. In some places, people do not have this right, so it is important that we take advantage of it whenever possible!
Happy Friday! :-)
